I was very happy when I first spotted Robert Pattinson travelling back and forth across the pond and generally being cool in his J.W. Anderson bomber jacket. It is my favourite purchase for this season as it's such an effortless way to add a bit of fun to monochromatic looks. I have been wearing mine with lots of grey and navy rather than black.
The Pantone-like striped jacket, which is a more wearable version from the designer's runway coat we saw last January during LCM. It is incredibly light yet warm and includes two inside slit pockets as well as leather detailing in the front and under the collar.
I can't say I am up to date with the relationship status of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson but either way it looks like Kristen's love for Balenciaga has rubbed off on her vampire husband. Last week, R-Patz was spotted leaving a studio in LA wearing Balenciaga's leather panel trainers in different textures of black and khaki laces. I had been looking forward to the moment they went on sale this season to snap up a pair but, alas, it seems like I wasn't the only one... and so they literally disappeared as soon as the sales kicked in.
Here's hoping the brand will decide to produce them again for next season but seeing as they were a Ghesquière introduction I very much doubt the Alex Wang accessory team will choose to take them forward.
UPDATE: A new model of high-top Balenciaga sneakers has been released this week on Mr Porter – check it out here.
It's been quite a brilliant week in style thanks to the Golden Globes and to the stylish guys doing their movie press tours. Joining the regulars to Most Stylish of the Week is Nicholas Hoult, who rocked a simple bronze Gucci suit and from whom I think we can expect some more great moments. Being tall always helps but the guy knows how to carry himself. Robert Pattinson also chose Gucci, though a more traditional black and white number. I love the perfect fit and the ease Patz wears it with. I am missing his great hair a little but I'm sure it will be back in no time.
I watched the first episode of 'The Carrie Diaries' this weekend and I must say I can't wait to see more of Austin Butler in it. Chuck Bass is irreplaceable but I love his 70's rockstar vibes in the 80's scenario. He is just as good at pulling effortless ensembles on his daily life.
How could I not include two Eddie Redmayne looks at least? He simply can do no wrong and always strikes a perfect balance between smart and casual. The colours are always subtle but he knows a man's best friends are fit and texture.
Even though I strongly disagree with his winning Best Director at the Golden Globes, Ben Affleck has enough experience by now to look more dapper than any of the boys on the red carpet. It's nice to see he knows the power of a broad lapel and a complimentary waistcoat – everything, of course, by Gucci.
I have been going through all this year's Most Stylish of the Week posts to see which guys had appeared the most. Zac Efron, Robert Pattinson and Andrew Garfield are the clear winners followed up by Eddie Redmayne, Austin Butler, Harry Styles and David Beckham.
They all appear in today's post wearing some of their best looks from December apart from Beckham, of whom I couldn't find a shot I was happy with.
We can definitely expect great on and off duty outfits from Efron, Styles and Butler, who recently rocked the most amazing leather jacket with shearling collar from All Saints – exactly the jacket I need, which is now sold out, of course.
Have I overlooked anyone you would include in the list?
JGL week excluded, I think this is the best Most Stylish of the Week post I've had so far. With the CFDA Fashion Fund, the Glamour and GQ Awards, and multiple movie premieres including the world tour of the 'Twilight' cast I have been absolutely spoiled for choice this week. So I decided to actually rank my favourite eight looks and to let you, unknown stylish reader, choose who your favourite is on the poll box below. Robert Pattinson's green Gucci moment (1) had all the cool ingredients we hadn't seen since Ryan Gosling set a similar (and, ahem, better) precedent a few months back. He has continued to look extremely sharp and original at every one of his press tour stops. I also loved his textured grey number (2) from the German premiere. If only he hadn't repeated shirt and tie... Taylor Lautner has also been doing surprisingly well. It's not only that clothes fit him well but, though less sartorial than Pattinson's, his choices of colour are quite interesting. I have never liked an all-black suit ensemble but this one (3) looks so good!
I was close to cutting this look (4) from today's post because of Pharrell Williams' awful choice of belt and comical attempt at joining Movember. But then again, it's Pharrell. His Lanvin look was as relaxed as it was chic and the sock-less situation and said facial hair actually give suit a sort of Mexicana feel that I'm actually quite into. Hamish Bowles (5) could probably be in this post every week but I feel like he has the advantage to have been 'playing the game' better and longer than the rest of us. His pattern mixing, not to mention matching sock action, makes me realise I know nothing.
Not everyone has the build to pull of a Tom Ford suit. What with the broad lapels, long jackets and wide ties a man has to be tall and seemingly buff not to get lost in one. Bradley Cooper (6) is that man. I loved the subtle check and the way he knows a blue shirt is his best ally.
Even though I'm still undecided about Chris Pine's Ralph Lauren Purple Label look (7) on the red blue carpet I do commend the purple/lilac touches and the choice of shirt collar. I wish we saw more signature Ralph Lauren on celebrities rather than bland bard suits. Cory Monteith (8) was probably the last person I ever thought I'd ever blog about. But I must admit that I find this slightly odd brown-black suit with the burgundy tie and the velvet shoes kind of fascinating.
There is nothing like a bit of cold in LA to make celebrities make more of an effort in the wardrobe department. Andrew Garfield, who is letting himself go a little on the grooming, looked great this week in a striped bottle green jumper, which just so happens to be one of the key colours of the season. There is a great ease about this look that I love. Robert Pattinson continues to promote his vampire flick around the world and looking great while at it. He often goes for monocolour outfits, which means texture is key. This awesome Burberry jacket and quilted waistcoat adds the perfect touch of 'fashion' to his casual look.
Not happy with rocking one of the best relaxed looks of the last few monthsAshton Kutcher went for take two this week. He paired dark grey chinos with a checked shirt in the same palette finished off with a red chunky shawl collar cardigan and red sneakers. I love how every item helps tie the whole look together, including the baseball hat.
I think is is one of the most flamboyant looks I've seen from David Beckham in a long while. Becks took Victoria to a concert this week and looked super fashionable in his usual subtle attire, which he spiced up this week with a Missoni shawl collar cardigan. It could have been borderline cheesy on someone else but it looks pretty damn cool on David. Kanye West, who normally wears clothes way too baggy for my taste, looked great this week in a beautiful pair of slim jeans paired worn a simple white tee, a black double chested blazer (perfectly cut) and a super cool pair of Nike sneaks.
Robert Pattinson loves his varsity jackets, have you noticed? And I can understand why, these jackets have the perfect mixture between urban and fashion, they're ultra comfortable and they work well on the male figure.
This time Pattinson went for a McQ black denim polo bomber, which he wore to Jimmy Kimmel Live paired with slim jeans and a white simple tee. As usual, the hair is kind of the key final touch. A couple of months ago Robert also went for a varsity jacket look for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. His choice then was a rock'n'roll Alexander McQueen Model.
It has been a great week for men's style! The highlight of the week, of course, has to be Daniel Craig decked up in Gucci giving yet another lesson on how men should have their suits cut. For the London premiere of 'Skyfall' Craig went for a classic combo but he spiced it up with a midnight blue tux jacket that made all the difference. Black and blue are a powerful weapon when it comes to evening wear. Alan Cumming, who we can see every week looking mighty sharp on 'The Good Wife', attended the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M party in New York in a total look from the designer collaboration. The camel 3-piece suit is one of my favourites from the collection and I'm happy to see Alan kept things interesting with the faux fur coat and cream slip-on shoes also from the line.
This week Robert Pattinson finally started his press tour for the last instalment of the Twilight Saga. Instead of some of the more classic combinations we've seen him in in the past R Patz went for a head-to-toe Kenzo look, which made me very happy. I love the deep olive green shade of the suit, the Doc Martens style shoes and, above all, the amazing printed shirt. Hopefully, there is more and better to come. Austin Butler, who is currently promoting 'The Carrie Diaries', is one of the few young Hollywood guys who understands the importance of a good suit and an even better haircut. The burgundy bowtie makes his look and the slicked back if messy hairdo tops it all off. Always invest in a good haircut!
I always get a certain feeling of accomplishment when a few of 'Most Stylish of the Week' match with those of American GQ. I guess it's easier when we don't have a particularly busy week in menswear. Ashton Kutcher, whom I'm equally happy and jealous of for going out with Mila Kunis, went for the ultimate casual chic combination this week. A tweed blazer and plaid shirt is always a winner. I am not a fan of the shoes but I love the touch of the baseball hat and shades, which give it a 'Ivy League' vibe. Robbert Pattinson's I-don't-give-a-damn outfits have become a lot more stylish since parting ways with K Stew. I love a bit of black and blue action and the slid back beanie tops it all off, literally, with a touch of boho chic.
This week we also witnessed Roo Panes' third lesson on how to wear a Burberry flannel jacket. First, he showed us a smart evening look, followed by an effortless scruffy but cool ensemble. Now it's time for the casual chic outfit finished off with a clean shave and a dapper pair of purple Jimmy Choo 'Hamilton' loafers.
The best groomed guy of the week is Matthew Fox in his latest editorial for Da Man magazine. I love it when men understand the power of striking the perfect balance between the scruffy and the polished. A stubble with a gel slicked-back hairdo is one of my favourite tricks for an elegant but not overly smart look. And this is exactly what the stylist for the shoot has done for Matthew. If only he kept it up off camera...
If public embarrassment does to everyone what it has done to Robert Pattinson, I want some. The actor is looking better than ever and so is his hair. It's almost like he wakes up every morning and perfectly messes his hair up to show Kristen Stewart what she's missing. I like his style. On top of it, he wore an indigo blue Gucci suit paired with a shirt in a slightly darker shade of blue and a black tie. Simple and modern.
Being so close to Diane Kruger has made Joshua Jackson absorb some of her effortless style. He has been rocking some pretty great summer looks over the last few weeks while filming in Canada. I don't approve of the flip flops but if Diane is okay with them I guess so am I.
Josh Hutcherson should stay blond. The actor has dyed his hair once again for the filming of 'Catching Fire' and he's looking great. It adds a nice rock and roll vibe to his look. Like anyone under 6' he struggles a bit with his trouser length but if Daniel Radcliffe and I found a solution for this I'm sure it's just a matter of time before he does.
Though you should have definitely not only heard of them but also seen them in action Ezra Miller, Logan Lerman, Johnny Simmons are the guys to watch out for. The stars of 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' – watch the trailer here –, which I can't wait to see, cover the September issue of Out totally decked up in Prada in a brilliant shoot by Kai Z Feng. Their press tour for the movie is going to be such a treat!
I really appreciate it when male celebrities get a bit of the spotlight on the red carpet. Just because we wear suits that (to some eyes) look very similar to each other it doesn't mean that they're any less interesting. You just need to look closer.
The Twilight boys are on their press tour around the world for the premieres of Breaking Dawn. Emporio Armani was the lucky brand to dress them for the London event and they were looking sharp! Robert Pattinson went for a dark combo with a charcoal grey suit, a grey shirt and a maroon tie. I'm usually not for all-dark pieces but they really work on him. Plus I am happy to see his great hair is looking good again!
Taylor Lautner went for a more classic look –grey suit, crisp white shirt and checked tie. I'm not a huge fan of the stubble but the tight haircut and slim fit of the suit made him look really elegant.
Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays Caius in the movie, was also looking very cool. He went for a more casual look in a black wool coat and black jeans. It was a really London look. I am loving the laid-back hair and the fact that he's got rid of the man-liner he was sporting for a bit...
