The Varsity Jacket of Dreams, by Harry Stedman

A few weeks ago, totally by chance, I discovered Harry Stedman – a London-based contemporary menswear brand founded in 2011. The brand takes elements and silhouettes both from England and from across the Atlantic, especially from the 60's and 50's, and brings them to the 21st century. Or as the brand very well puts it: "We respectfully look to the past to inform our designs". Their attention to detail and to high quality makes their pieces understated (everyday) luxury by definition.
I also recently had the chance to have a closer look at the collection and if anything it enhanced my enthusiasm for the brand. Take one of my favourite pieces, the Slim Fit Varsity Jacket. Unlike many of the styles we have been seeing for the last couple of seasons, Harry Stedman's version present what is (to me, anyway) the most contemporary of upgrades – fit. Brands and designers continue to play with materials, colours and embellishments but not many thought of restructuring the original fit – a baggier silhouette that Stedman also offers but which is nowadays much too vintage.
I simply can't recommend Harry Stedman's products enough. Not just their impeccable outerwear but their sharp shirts too. I, for one, have put this varsity jacket at the top of my Christmas list.

Romeo Beckham wears Burberry Prorsum to the Cirque du Soleil

Romeo Beckham is most definitely a style icon in the making. Looking at pictures of him from the last few years it's always seemed quite obvious that he had some flair, or at least an interest, for fashion. And so I was both surprised and chuffed when I found out he was one of the new faces for the SS13 Burberry campaign. Romeo and his brothers and dad also had a Burberry ensemble moment a few weeks ago, but this beats it.
Following the stylish steps of Tinie Tempah, Romeo has been one of the first to don Burberry Prorsum's amazing metallic varsity jackets. He chose to dazzle with his blue and green number to go see the Cirque du Soleil in London this weekend. Despite the slight size issue – he is 10 after all – he really rocked it.
I can't wait to see how he styles develops when he's in his late teens and after that but, saving moments like this, he should stick to living a normal (albeit stylish) boy life.

Robert Pattinson wears McQ

Robert Pattinson loves his varsity jackets, have you noticed? And I can understand why, these jackets have the perfect mixture between urban and fashion, they're ultra comfortable and they work well on the male figure.
This time Pattinson went for a McQ black denim polo bomber, which he wore to Jimmy Kimmel Live paired with slim jeans and a white simple tee. As usual, the hair is kind of the key final touch. A couple of months ago Robert also went for a varsity jacket look for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. His choice then was a rock'n'roll Alexander McQueen Model.

I first fell in love with this Rag & Bone varsity jacket (available at Mr Porter) when I saw it on Mr Porter's Editor-in-Chief Jeremy Langmead during menswear day at London Fashion Week. I loved the smart-meets-casual feel it has and how interesting its mixture of textures –wool front and back, leather sleeves and knit hems, collar and cuffs.
This weekend Andrew Garfield, one of the best dressed guys at the moment, was spotted in New York wearing it with burgundy corduroy trousers (which I have!) and a checked shirt. It would never fit me that well but I am thinking of giving this look another go this week with my April Records trousers, my Zara black and grey varsity jacket and a neutral shirt underneath. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
