Most Stylish of the Week: The Importance of Being Well Tailored

MSOTW26Oct JustJared, Style.com

It has been a great week for men's style! The highlight of the week, of course, has to be Daniel Craig decked up in Gucci giving yet another lesson on how men should have their suits cut. For the London premiere of 'Skyfall' Craig went for a classic combo but he spiced it up with a midnight blue tux jacket that made all the difference. Black and blue are a powerful weapon when it comes to evening wear.
Alan Cumming, who we can see every week looking mighty sharp on 'The Good Wife', attended the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M party in New York in a total look from the designer collaboration. The camel 3-piece suit is one of my favourites from the collection and I'm happy to see Alan kept things interesting with the faux fur coat and cream slip-on shoes also from the line.
This week Robert Pattinson finally started his press tour for the last instalment of the Twilight Saga. Instead of some of the more classic combinations we've seen him in in the past R Patz went for a head-to-toe Kenzo look, which made me very happy. I love the deep olive green shade of the suit, the Doc Martens style shoes and, above all, the amazing printed shirt. Hopefully, there is more and better to come.
Austin Butler, who is currently promoting 'The Carrie Diaries', is one of the few young Hollywood guys who understands the importance of a good suit and an even better haircut. The burgundy bowtie makes his look and the slicked back if messy hairdo tops it all off. Always invest in a good haircut!

Fashion, Frankly at LFW

We have to still have to wait for the last day of LFW to deliver its men's gems on Wednesday. I will be reporting from Top Man, CSM x Bally, Cassette Playa, Christopher Shannon and Hardy Amies. So follow me on twitter from twitpics on-the-go. In the meantime, rejoice with me as I was featured on today's LFWDaily paper. I am probably more excited than I should be but I don't care. I am enjoying my 0.2 minutes of fame. The snap is from Friday, when I was wearing my beige Uniqlo trousers, aubergine Massimo Dutti desert boots, H&M grey blazer and lilac gingham shirt, Uniqlo knitted tie, vintage tie clip, Massimo Dutti paisley scarf, YSL leopard belt, All Saints leather jacket and Louis Vuitton folder.

H&M x Lanvin: Mission Accomplished

After all the anticipation and a couple hours of waiting in the cold I finally got what I wanted from the H&M x Lanvin collection! If you remember my post from a few days you'll know I didn't really want to get many things. I was happy to find the merino wool trousers in dark grey and brown. I am already creating outfits including them in my mind. Did you get what you were wishing for?
I'm wearing my beloved A.P.C. coat, Alexander McQueen scarf and a Lanvin wool hat.

Lanvin x H&M: My picks

Most of you reading this will have probably seen the entire Lanvin x H&M collection by now. But I though I'd make a little post about it telling you about what I am dying to own and what left me unimpressed.
First of all, I have to say how amazed I still am about the range of suits, jackets and separates that Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver have managed to pull off. This said, I will also say how the bow ties are, by far, the biggest disappointment for me. My favourite bow tie is from Lanvin and I was hoping this would be the time to stock up on cheaper versions. The pictures might be deceiving but the H&M translations seem not only too big (even for oversized) but also incredibly cheap-looking.
My favourite item is, by far, the jersey trousers. I will buy (if they are forgiving) as many as I can afford because I can't think of a more versatile and cool men's garment than this one. It's a great piece for travelling, achieving the perfect casual/chic middle ground and to generally play with. I am also really keen on owning the kind of parka/overcoat in khaki and, possibly, some of the tailored pieces. But all of this depends on how they look up close. I am, however, quite uncertain about the shoes. They don't look too appealing on the pictures but if the price goes in relation to the quality I might get myself a pair of copper ones to mix my winter wardrobe up a bit.

Formal is the new casual

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of sharing a great lunch and an even better chat with Giulia and her mum. Of course it was a casual rendez-vous and all but when one knows that the women sitting across the table look extremely chic in pretty much anything one has to make an effort to look presentable. And so I went for the famous casual chic, which for me is some sort of middle ground between a classic smart combo and its opposite. I paired up a tiny blue and black gingham shirt (H&M) with a bottle green crew neck jumper (Uniqlo) and my favourite double-chested navy blazer from Zara. The casual touch was introduced by the blazer's jersey, my classic-coloured Cheap Monday jeans and my indigo blue lace up Vans. Thoughts?

PS. Apologies for the bad quality of the picture. I took it with my blackberry and I had to alter the brightness so you could kind of see the jumper was actually green.

H&M must-haves for fw10

It's kind of great that retailers like H&M make videos of their more iconic pieces for the season so we get to have a look before they hit the stores. I already bought some FW10 items at H&M a couple of weeks ago but all the 'hardcore' pieces, as I like to refer to them, were not in store yet. I had never thought about man capes until I watched this video and I am not very seriously considering getting one. It is a tricky piece to add to a man's wardrobe (especially if you haven't been blessed with height like me) but it's worth at least a go. My other two favourites for the upcoming season are the snoods, which got big last year. I've been wearing them most of my life but I love that they've become a trend for a couple of seasons so I can stock up for the future. My second obsession are suits. I believe it is the Mad Men inside me talking but I do. Especially with cropped trousers and ankle boots and with the blazer working more as a coat than a jacket.

Anchors & espadrilles

If you follow me on twitter you'll know already that last week I got some ink on me. I had been meaning to do so for quite a while and I finally dived in while being in Madrid. Luckily for me, my flatmate had given me these H&M shorts of anchor motifs. So it seemed only obvious to wear them a couple of days after getting my tattoos for the full effect. I wore them with a burgundy Uniqlo polo shirt and my brand new El Ganso espadrilles.
