Wardrobe Staples, Jewellery & Chace Crawford this week at Mr Porter

Mrp5Dec

If you put together all of this week's additions on Mr Porter you would have quite a complete selection of wardrobe staples that will work with your seasonal pieces year on year. It also included a pretty remarkable selection of what I call man-jewells. I'm not a flashy person so I've always struggled with certain menswear accesory trends over the years. However, these Foundwell pieces have an element of distinction while still being masculine and timeless. They also have a touch of vintage and a certain 20's art deco vibe, which I love.
It's also about this time of the year when I add new pieces to my denim collection. I take my jeans very seriously because I wear denim every day so I need excellent quality and a great fit. Nudie is, together with Acne, my favourite brand and also I love the classic look and finish of these black Margiela ones.
You can click on the links below the image to shop all the items.

This week Mr P also released their latest issue of the journal, featuring a story with Chace Crawford – the jock turned businessman Nate Archibald on Gossip Girl. I love the entire shoot and the styling, which is all about velvet, my favourite texture for the holidays. You can see and shop the whole story here.

Most Stylish of the Week: The Importance of Being Well Tailored

MSOTW26Oct JustJared, Style.com

It has been a great week for men's style! The highlight of the week, of course, has to be Daniel Craig decked up in Gucci giving yet another lesson on how men should have their suits cut. For the London premiere of 'Skyfall' Craig went for a classic combo but he spiced it up with a midnight blue tux jacket that made all the difference. Black and blue are a powerful weapon when it comes to evening wear.
Alan Cumming, who we can see every week looking mighty sharp on 'The Good Wife', attended the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M party in New York in a total look from the designer collaboration. The camel 3-piece suit is one of my favourites from the collection and I'm happy to see Alan kept things interesting with the faux fur coat and cream slip-on shoes also from the line.
This week Robert Pattinson finally started his press tour for the last instalment of the Twilight Saga. Instead of some of the more classic combinations we've seen him in in the past R Patz went for a head-to-toe Kenzo look, which made me very happy. I love the deep olive green shade of the suit, the Doc Martens style shoes and, above all, the amazing printed shirt. Hopefully, there is more and better to come.
Austin Butler, who is currently promoting 'The Carrie Diaries', is one of the few young Hollywood guys who understands the importance of a good suit and an even better haircut. The burgundy bowtie makes his look and the slicked back if messy hairdo tops it all off. Always invest in a good haircut!

He's fly: Zac Efron, Part II

I love following the style progress of celebrities. You might remember how my first ever He's fly post on Fashion, Frankly was about Zac Efron. I was then in awe of his Spring/Summer looks around the time when he attended the Maui Film Festival in 2010. He sticks to the classics but he picks garments that are individually interesting yet still versatile enough to be combined in many ways.
Over a year later, he's stuck to his own rules but stepped it up in terms of sophistication. This time I want to admire the looks he's been wearing for his latest press tour in the UK. He's always at his best when he travels.
He arrived in Heathrow channeling a bit of Ryan Gosling with a slim pair of grey chinos, a printed blue tee and a pair of brown lace-ups. He made these cool with a shearling lined leather jacket, some funky socks and a Louis Vuitton keepall travel bag. For the rest of his time in London he donned similar trousers in light brown a slightly shiny chambray shirt and a pair of dark brown leather brogue boots. He then played around with these, to which he added a burgundy chunky cardigan –a look he later wore too to fly out of Heathrow. My favourite look was the one he wore to his Radio 1 interview –a pair of dark jeans, a brown and blue checked shirt and the super cool leather jacket.

I went on to find similar items from Mr Porter for a 'Zac Efron, get the look' kind of thing. I love all the items I found as they're very much after my own heart.

He's Fly: Brad Pitt in MMM & Tom Ford

When a man gets Tom Ford freebies you know he's got style. And Brad Pitt's got plenty of both. He was one of the other male stars who received much attention at Cannes.
I've always been unsure of whether I like white suits or not because it seems a lot easier to get it wrong. But when you're Brad Pitt and you're wearing a Martin Margiela suit, slicked back hair and a half grey goatee a white suit is not something to worry your thoughts. He looked ridiculously cool during his arrival at the festival despite the tacky golden chain on his neck and the too long trousers. My favourite item, no wonder, were the Tom Ford sunglasses, which I went crazy trying to find online but could never find. I guess he gets to preview items as well...

11 things I can't live without this winter

I have been doing some window shopping lately (in the real world and on the internet) and have come up with the list of the ultimate things I just must have in my wardrobe this winter so I can be happy (aka: look exactly the way I want). You have to know, if you don't already, that I am a very classic chap. But one that also appreciates modern takes on classic pieces be it in the shape of innovation in fabrics, cuts or colour. I have also devised the list in a way that it adds character but also utility to my closet. I don't quite believe in seasonal items, which is why I like selecting characteristic garments from different designer collections and turning them into my personal classics.
