It could've been a quiet boring post-Oscar laziness week if it hadn't been for Timberlake and Hoult. After the Oscar attendees dazzled on the red carpet a week ago some of the younger celebrities still managed to get some attention at the award's after-parties. Such is the case of Jacob Artist, who attended the Elton John party. The dapper Glee actor worn his head-to-toe Armani black tie look like a pro – you don't need a king-size bowtie to make a statement. Taylor Lautner suited up in a stunning blue Paul Smith number, which looked very modern thanks to the slim fit and the killer toe-cap blue shoes. Justin Timberlake rocked our socks later in the week with his casual outfit. The protagonist was his knit and suede blue bomber jacket, the über-stylish silk necktie, perfect hair and Tom Ford shades. Nicholas Hoult graced the inside pages of the latest issue of American GQ in a 'Power Suit' editorial as enviously-chic, manly and cool as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's. In the story the actor rocks some seriously tailored looks by DKNY, Tom Ford, Gucci (below, right), Giorgio Armani (below, left), Calvin Klein Collection and Dolce & Gabbana.
JGL week excluded, I think this is the best Most Stylish of the Week post I've had so far. With the CFDA Fashion Fund, the Glamour and GQ Awards, and multiple movie premieres including the world tour of the 'Twilight' cast I have been absolutely spoiled for choice this week. So I decided to actually rank my favourite eight looks and to let you, unknown stylish reader, choose who your favourite is on the poll box below. Robert Pattinson's green Gucci moment (1) had all the cool ingredients we hadn't seen since Ryan Gosling set a similar (and, ahem, better) precedent a few months back. He has continued to look extremely sharp and original at every one of his press tour stops. I also loved his textured grey number (2) from the German premiere. If only he hadn't repeated shirt and tie... Taylor Lautner has also been doing surprisingly well. It's not only that clothes fit him well but, though less sartorial than Pattinson's, his choices of colour are quite interesting. I have never liked an all-black suit ensemble but this one (3) looks so good!
I was close to cutting this look (4) from today's post because of Pharrell Williams' awful choice of belt and comical attempt at joining Movember. But then again, it's Pharrell. His Lanvin look was as relaxed as it was chic and the sock-less situation and said facial hair actually give suit a sort of Mexicana feel that I'm actually quite into. Hamish Bowles (5) could probably be in this post every week but I feel like he has the advantage to have been 'playing the game' better and longer than the rest of us. His pattern mixing, not to mention matching sock action, makes me realise I know nothing.
Not everyone has the build to pull of a Tom Ford suit. What with the broad lapels, long jackets and wide ties a man has to be tall and seemingly buff not to get lost in one. Bradley Cooper (6) is that man. I loved the subtle check and the way he knows a blue shirt is his best ally.
Even though I'm still undecided about Chris Pine's Ralph Lauren Purple Label look (7) on the red blue carpet I do commend the purple/lilac touches and the choice of shirt collar. I wish we saw more signature Ralph Lauren on celebrities rather than bland bard suits. Cory Monteith (8) was probably the last person I ever thought I'd ever blog about. But I must admit that I find this slightly odd brown-black suit with the burgundy tie and the velvet shoes kind of fascinating.
I would have thought that this week would be a crazy one what with Halloween and the Twilight Saga guys touring around the world. But it wasn't. Perhaps we ought to blame this on Sandy too. Taylor Lautner was the only of the guys to look sharp this week. I'm not usually a huge fan of the goth suit combo but I admit the black shirt and tie work perfectly with his textured grey suit. The fit is perfect and the subtle green touch of the shoes somehow works.
This guy saved the week for me because before I found this picture I was going to scrap this week's post. Matt Bomer flew back to LA in possibly one of the best airport looks I've ever seen. Even though it screams "I-don't-give-a-f*ck" we all know even these outfits take a little thinking. The colour combination is brilliant (shoes, jacket, hat, shades) and looks even better over the super casual blues of the shirt and the jeans. But it's the scarf and the beard that really give it the attitude.
I don't know if I've ever mentioned here how annoying I find Kanye West - now you know. But even then I find it hard to overlook some of his outfits sometimes. His Halloween outfit this year was as suave as it was lame, which reminded me of myself because I hate fancy dress. Kanye went for a chic sailor look that would have made Jean Paul Gaultier proud and that, frankly, should make him rethink his all-black dressing rule.
Also this week Vogue UK revealed a story on One Direction shot by Patrick Demarchelier. The guys look mighty cool in their head-to-toe Burberry attire. I particularly love that they're wearing my favourite polka dot ties. Hopefully we'll get to see a proper full editorial with them soon. They're definitely well on their way, this month they also cover the new issue of Wonderland.
I really appreciate it when male celebrities get a bit of the spotlight on the red carpet. Just because we wear suits that (to some eyes) look very similar to each other it doesn't mean that they're any less interesting. You just need to look closer.
The Twilight boys are on their press tour around the world for the premieres of Breaking Dawn. Emporio Armani was the lucky brand to dress them for the London event and they were looking sharp! Robert Pattinson went for a dark combo with a charcoal grey suit, a grey shirt and a maroon tie. I'm usually not for all-dark pieces but they really work on him. Plus I am happy to see his great hair is looking good again!
Taylor Lautner went for a more classic look –grey suit, crisp white shirt and checked tie. I'm not a huge fan of the stubble but the tight haircut and slim fit of the suit made him look really elegant.
Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays Caius in the movie, was also looking very cool. He went for a more casual look in a black wool coat and black jeans. It was a really London look. I am loving the laid-back hair and the fact that he's got rid of the man-liner he was sporting for a bit...
