Most Stylish of the Week: A Whole lot of Great Tailoring

MSOTW18Aug

As you will notice scrolling down, it has been a great week for menswear but mostly in terms of tailoring. It's always interesting to see how different people approach it and play with the different elements that go with it.
Jason Sudeikis continued to look sharp this week in a very traditional-fitting blue suit with equally traditional accessories. It was almost like a look Obama would wear but it looked better on Sudeikis.
In a slim-fit grey Saint Laurent suit, James Marsden went for a more modern approach. He only used black, white and grey but the fact that he balanced the lack of tie with a waistcoat contrasting the jacket was a great move.
I am always interested to see what Jamie Campbell Bower wears because he gives clothes a very personal spin. This week he did it twice. The first, a three-piece blue mohair-blend Alexander McQueen suit (buy it here: jacket, trousers, waistcoat). The second, an oxblood McQ suit worn with a shirt and pocket square in the same tones and printed detailing (buy it here: jacket, trousers).
Darren Criss hosted the Teen Choice Awards last weekend and he turned up on the red carpet in a look that no teen could pull off. The deep green Emporio Armani suit was paired with a light blue shirt and deep blue tie and Christian Louboutin 'Bruno Orlato' shoes.

Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine both got it right at the Japanese premiere of 'Star Trek Into Darkness'. Zachary in a light pinstripe blue suit worn with a modern striped knit tie of burgundy tones and Chris in a more daring checked suit with brown accessory notes very much on trend. The best of both looks are the perfectly cropped suit trousers.
At 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' premiere Robert Sheehan really put it out there with his paisley print Dent da Man suit. Just like his co-star Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheehan opted for a collar accessory rather than a tie. Don't try it at home.
After trying a few different things during his 'Bling Ring' press tour, Israel Broussard has found a compromise between edgy and elegant. His Viktor & Rolf grey look brought a classic silhouette and texture to a look that was made modern by the embellished white shirt.
Dev Patel brings the only casual hit of the week. The actor was seen at LAX in a pair of faded pink jeans, which he wore with a navy tee and the coolest quilted jacket.

Most Stylish of the Week: American Vs. British

MSOTW24June

I was close to skipping this week's Most Stylish of the Week again because of fashion week but I thought I couldn't deprive you from the weekly dose of celebrity style for much longer... ha!
We can expect some great fashion moments from the press tour of 'The Lone Ranger', which kicked off this weekend. Armie Hammer, who usually looks great but a tad too conventional for my taste, stepped out of the box in a beautiful pale pink Tom Ford linen suit worn with a white shirt and Ford's signature black knit tie.The cut is classic but right on the money and the colour is unexpected but elegant with a dash of preppy.
Also at the premiere was Johnny Depp, who is no stranger to best dressed lists. While I would have loved him to alter his trousers, I must admit no one could have ever rocked this Ralph Lauren navy pin stripe three-piece suit like him. The secret was in the native American accessorising, which was in line with the film and added Depp's personal touch.
It seems like Darren Criss has found his style mojo – finally! Or perhaps this is what an Emporio Armani suit does to a stylish man. All of the pieces fit him like a glove, now we just need him taken to the barber shop for some much-needed grooming makeover.

Meanwhile, in China, David Beckham went for a classic grey suit, which he kept looking modern with a square micro-print slim tie and his usual perfect hair – hence why he also deserves to be the best groomed of the week!
Even though David Gandy rarely departs with his signature look of slim double-chested blazer and  contrast trousers I must admit he has been making some brilliant combinations in the past few weeks. One of his latest hits was this muted brown jacket worn over a low crew neck tee, navy chinos and battered suede boots.
Daniel Radcliffe has been featured on the Most Stylish of the Week almost as many times as Beckham, which is to say a lot. The actor knows the importance of well-fitting tailoring, specially if (like me) you're not gifted with a tall body. His modern grey suit looked fantastic with the dressed down t-shirt and the yellow pop of colour of the shocks. Topping it off (literally) was his sharp haircut.

Nicholas Hoult wears Emporio Armani to the Jonathan Ross Show

NicholasHoultArmani

Over the last few months Nicholas Hoult has appeared on the Most Stylish of the Week posts more and more often. The guy really knows how to wear a suit and, what's more difficult, how to always keep his looks interesting without overdoing it.
Last week the actor decked up in an Emporio Armani look from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection for his appearance at the Jonathan Ross Show. Not everyone can pull of a metallic/shiny finish on a suit but Hoult looked very slick. I think the secret was in the tie-less relaxed styling. My favourite touch to the look were the lace-up black boots, which we don't usually see celebrities wear with tailoring.
A slight stubble and a sharp short haircut completed his look.

Most Stylish of the Week: John Snow debuts with a double hit

MSOTW25Mar

First of all, let me apologise for the radio silence. Last week started out quite busy at work just before my 25th birthday on Thursday and a nice visit from a good friend for the weekend. So I had my hands full.
And the week was just as busy style-wise. Daniel Radcliffe has really become one of the sharpest dressed young actors around. His classic black and white combo by Spencer Hart for the Empire Awards, which he wore with classic Grenson lace-ups.
David Beckham wears a tracksuit bottom as easily as a three piece suit. This week he rocked a tucked-in tie to show off his football skills in China. Perfect haircut too, not much else to say.
The opening of the David Bowie exhibition at the V&A in London brought out some of the coolest guys in town who decked up in Gucci. Such was the case of Mr Hudson, who pulled off the beautiful micro print double-chested number like a pro.
Tom Hiddleston always looks elegant but I especially loved this Emporio Armani number playing with different shades of blue and featuring one of my favourite accessories – the collar pin.
My happiest moment of the week, I must admit, was Kit Harington's public (or candid) appearances. The actor looked super cool first arriving in the US in slim jeans, Chelsea boots and a blue suede bomber jacket (a man after my own heart) and then suited up in grey chinos and a black slim blazer, which he wore with black desert boots and a casual jersey polo shirt. It's less than a week now before we can see him suited up in leather and fur again on Game of Thrones!
Justin Chatwin showed this week how perfectly fitted casual clothes can sometimes be as cool as a suit. It's a pretty straight-forward look topped off by a killer haircut and an ace mustard jacket.
Speaking of good haircuts, Austin Butler was also out and about this week with this incredible hair – someone should really give him an award. There really is nothing special about his outfit but the hair is so good I thought he deserved a spot in the post.

A closer look at Giorgio and Emporio Armani SS13

ArmaniSS13c

Since I hardly ever get to do re-sees of my favourite menswear shows I always look forward to 'Press Day season' because I love having the chance to have a closer look at all the collections. One of the first ones was Armani this week.
I recently posted about the Emporio Armani SS13 collection, which I really enjoyed. I loved getting a feel of the amazing textiles the ultra light blazers were made of. The flecked one above was one of my favourite pieces. As were the olive green leather biker jacket and the tortoiseshell accessories, especially the monk strap shoes.
The Giorgio Armani line was even more exquisite. There is a real sense of modernity and expected uses and combinations of materials but the cuts are classically Armani. I could have easily taken the whole collection of blazers home with me. They have the most beautiful prints and textures you could wish for summer. Some of my other highlights were the leather lined double-chested trench coat, the croc lace-up shoes and the incredible travel bags and carry-ons.

Emporio Armani SS13: Trends with personality

EAss13 Courtesy of Armani

Very few menswear designers are able to marry sportswear and tailoring as well as Giorgio Armani. That's probably the reason why he was trusted with the task of dressing the Italian Olympic team this summer. What could give more pleasure than saying "I'm wearing Armani" when you're decked down in activewear? Exactly.
I personally loved how this influence was introduced in the SS13 Emporio Armani collection because it was subtle and elegantly done. The eclectic textiles used in the collection not only helped the symbiosis of the sporty and the smart but added value to all the looks because of the play of textures they created. I especially loved the outerwear and how it was styled with comfy shorts and shoes as smart as they were tough.
But perhaps what I appreciated the most about the show was the fact that we even saw some seasonal trends, which is something rare at Armani because the designer marches to the beat of his own drum. I loved seeing parkas, quite a bit of khaki and even a dash of leopard reinvented by Mr Armani as a sort of enamel monk shoe.
This was one of the best EA shows of the last few seasons and a personal favourite. You can watch the video of the runway show below.

Most Stylish of the Week: Le denim c'est chic

MSOTW21Apr
JustJared, Style.com, Getty
Even though this is the second week that I make this 'Most Stylish of the Week' post I can already tell you that a lot of the men in it as well as last week's will most likely be appearing week after week. While some women can be a little hit-and-miss it seems like a stylish men tends to always be stylish – and I mean this with the outmost respect for womenswear.
This week there is a bit of a mix of smart looks, casual looks and hybrid looks. Freddie Fox, decked up in Emporio Armani, attended the Olivier Awards looking elegant and cool. I love the classic combo of dark suit and white shirt with the touch of the knit tie and the silver tie pin, which give everything a modern touch
Phillip Lim, who is one of the best dressed designers ever, made a perfect mixture of cropped battered jeans and t-shirt (the casual) and a stunning double-chested blazer and a pair of patent leather boots (the smart) – it was just incredibly chic.
Even though it's hard to see what David Beckham is wearing in the picture I decided to include him because I love the checked shirt with the white round collar detail but, mostly, because of his haircut. He has taken a bit shorter (for the summer, I assume) and there is no better accessory to a look than sharp hair.
Kris Allen, of whom I didn't know much, performed on American Idol wearing one of the most perfect denim jackets I have seen in a while. It's the classic Levi's 501 colour and just the right fit. I myself have a very similar one I found at a vintage store and got altered and there is no better piece for the summer, especially if you know how to work double denim.
And last on the list is Robert Downey Jr, who is currently on his press tour for The Avengers. This time he went for a Vivienne Westwood (?) checked suit I couldn't possibly like more paired with a print bow tie, suede sneakers and his signature ombré shades. Only one flaw – get those trousers taken up, yes?

Milan FW12 Photo Diary

IMG-20120114-00312
As I promised, here is a little more form my visit to Milan back in January when I attended some of the FW12 shows.
The most exciting bit about the beginning of fashion week is, no doubt, when you start receiving the invites to the shows. And it's even more exciting when they're directed at your hotel and you get them all in one go as you check in. I was also lucky enough to get an absolutely amazing room and have the company of Giulia and Mélina, two of my favourite people.

We enjoyed some intoxicating and delicious Aperol Spritzers, which you must try when you're in Italy. These particular ones below are from the Gucci Cafe inside the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

The following morning we all met back at the top of the Armani Hotel. It's such an incredible luminous space and such a relaxed and chic ambiance to have breakfast or lunch to recharge before a show.

Our first show that day was, very aptly, Emporio Armani.

Followed by the Moncler fashion show later that day. Below is the incredible toy Formula 1 cars installation that welcomed guests to the show. The hours that must've taken to line up!

The boys choose Emporio Armani for the premiere of Braking Dawn

twilightemporioarmani

I really appreciate it when male celebrities get a bit of the spotlight on the red carpet. Just because we wear suits that (to some eyes) look very similar to each other it doesn't mean that they're any less interesting. You just need to look closer.
The Twilight boys are on their press tour around the world for the premieres of Breaking Dawn. Emporio Armani was the lucky brand to dress them for the London event and they were looking sharp! Robert Pattinson went for a dark combo with a charcoal grey suit, a grey shirt and a maroon tie. I'm usually not for all-dark pieces but they really work on him. Plus I am happy to see his great hair is looking good again!
Taylor Lautner went for a more classic look –grey suit, crisp white shirt and checked tie. I'm not a huge fan of the stubble but the tight haircut and slim fit of the suit made him look really elegant.
Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays Caius in the movie, was also looking very cool. He went for a more casual look in a black wool coat and black jeans. It was a really London look. I am loving the laid-back hair and the fact that he's got rid of the man-liner he was sporting for a bit...

La vie en... the colour that you please

EAglassesanniversary

Emporio Armani is celebrating their 30th year anniversary this year and for it they have created a new line of sunglasses. My favourite out of the two models they have created for this is the round one.
They come in quite a few colours and they're pretty out there, perfect for people who like to make a statement. I am q pretty classic guy so I couldn't see myself wearing the red, orange or green but I think the black ones are awesome. I feel like Iris Apfel would wear something like this, no?

You'll be able to buy the collection from September and Armani is also launching a mini-website in mid-October where you'll be able to choose the mixes of temples, lenses and logos. So there's endless possibilities!

The Emporio Armani Super Meccanico watch

EArmaniwatches
Courtesy of Armani
I still remember how excited when I bought my first "grown-up" watch quite  few years ago. I went to the Emporio Armani shop in Madrid with my parents so I could choose the watch for my birthday.
I ended up choosing a really avant-garde (for the time and my age anyway) watch –it had a wide leather strap that almost seemed like a bracelet and it had a small metallic rectangular box in the middle that was the digital watch. I couldn't have been happier and I got so many compliments about it in school.
A couple of years after both my dad and I bought a second watch there, that one was more grown up and classic, of course. And now I feel like it's time to bring another Emporio Armani watch into my life.
The brand is now launching a limited edition watch –only 999 pieces of the Super Meccanico watch have been produced and they have all been individually engraved with their number. How cool would it be if you could pick the one with your lucky number engraved on it?
I love the design because it's elegant but not too formal –the screw details make it tough but the flexible strap give it a sporty touch. I would love to have it in the black (with an 8 engraved) but I also feel like the metallic sphere would be a great buy for people who want a watch to go with a suit during the week and jeans and a cardigan on the weekend.

The watches will be available in Emporio Armani stores in September.
