Update your Bomber Jacket this Summer with some Shine like Miles Teller

Bomber jackets are here to stay. Even though we're early into the SS16 season it's undeniable they've become an essential piece to everyone's wardrobe. They first had their comeback little over a year a go in their original canvas and jersey fabrics, which were often seen in black and navy. A few months later, with a few thousand more people in their pocket, nylon styles in black and burgundy seemed to be the most popular. However, the clear winner of the bomber jacket popularity contest is khaki – if you keep an eye out for them on the street you'll undoubtedly count them by the dozens.

I have been collecting bombers in all fabrics and colours over the past couple of years – grey jersey, burgundy canvas, navy faux-suede, tan suede and khaki nylon. It's fair to say I am well-covered but there is nothing I enjoy less than wearing the same pieces as everyone else. That's why I am fast jumping on the next bomber jacket trend-wagon, which some celebrities  – Justin Bieber, Miles Teller (pictured above), Jake Gyllenhaal – are already sporting. The 'shiny bomber' is harder to pull off as it's more of a statement. However, when choosing the material and colours correctly, it's a great off-beat way to approach the ubiquitous trend. You should aim for satin styles as the shine feels more natural (no sunglasses required) but there are a bunch of great synthetic choices if, like me, you don't fancy robbing a bank.

Fear of God dresses Justin Bieber for the 'Purpose' Tour

Whether you choose to accept it or not Justin Bieber has been trendsetting ever since his comeback last year. His choice of oversized top silhouettes and super ripped slim jeans might not be for everyone but it has undeniably propelled brands and trends from the so-called 'streetwear luxe' onto mainstream fashion. And so Bieber has quickly become somewhat of a style icon thanks to his interesting combinations of Saint Laurent, Off White, Supreme, Undercover and Fear of God. It's this last one that Bieber and his stylist Karla Welch seem to favour over any other so it was only natural Fear of God would dress Justin for his 'Purpose' tour, which kicked off in Seattle last Wednesday.

If, like me, you're a fan of Fear of God you will recognise some of their most signature pieces like the ripped Selvedge jeans, the denim raglan trucker jacket or the long and short sleeve version of their flannel shirt. These are paired with a great selection of some of the best pieces from the brand's fourth collection as well as some customised and new pieces made for the tour.
Fear of God footwear is coming up soon but in the meantime Bieber had to do without. He opted for the Adidas Ultra Boost and the Yeezy Boost 350's in black and oxford tan.

Now, this might seem like an odd suggestion from a fashion/style blog but I would advice you to keep an eye out for Bieber's tour merchandise, which is heavily influenced by Fear of God and Vetements, the other big name of streetwear luxe at the moment. If you don't mind sporting 'Bieber' or 'Purpose' across your chest some of these pieces would actually look quite cool mixed with your existing wardrobe. You can always say it's ironic.

Three New KITH Classics Items Dropping Tomorrow You Must Have

As an avid sneaker collector KITH has always been one of my first stops when visiting the big apple. Over the last few years they have very successfully expanded their namesake brand, which now also sees the launch of womenswear. Their KITH Classics line reaches that perfect balance between a contemporary urban style and great know-how, which elevates all their pieces.
I can't get enough of their frayed hoodie I bought during my last visit in September and so I am understandably excited over their upcoming Classics styles, dropping tomorrow at 11am (EST time) on the KITH website.

From the entire selection of pieces three particularly stand out for me. The first is the now ubiquitous bomber jacket – finding a classic style with good fit and just the right amount of detailing is not as easy as it may look. KITH's classic Astor MA 1 jacket now also includes a down lining to keep you warm. It's followed by the denim Ginza shirts, offered in stonewash, black and ivory denim and created in collaboration with Japanese brand Ones Stroke. The trick is in the details here – the mandarin collar, a slim fit and the side button detailing. And lastly my favourite the long bomber. The Although the Oliver Long Bomber isn't quite new on its own, KITH has given it a winter revamp with a quilted lining and duck down filling so that it serves as a coat.

Speaking from experience, such popular pieces might fly come 11am so be ready to shop swiftly.

Scott Disick wears Zara's Bomber Jacket

Ever since Kanye West joined the Kardashian family we've seen quite a change in his brother in law Scott Disick's style. He quickly transitioned from a very 80's literal yuppie influence (think 'The Wolf of Wall Street') to a very contemporary and more relaxed style, which I've become a big fan of. Unlike many other guys – this style is, in a way, a kind of uniform in LA – Disick's touch makes ripped jeans and t-shirts look put together and slick rather than lazy.

For one of his latest outings the (insert occupation here) paired a pair of light blue ripped jeans with his signature suede chelsea boots, which he wore with a loose black t-shirt and a bomber jacket. The khaki jacket with black contrast collar, cuffs and waistband in black is one of those staple pieces that feels very off-the-moment and that will age well in your wardrobe. And that's exactly why I bought the exact same piece a few weeks ago. Well, that and the fact that at a bargain of £40 from Zara I could hardly resist. Evan Peters/Quicksilver wears Horiyoshi III in X-Men: Days of Future Past

I tend to spend every August working in London while most of Europe is away on holiday, which can sometimes be discouraging. On the upside, work really slows down so I am able to take it easy and catch up on quite a few of the movies I missed through the year. And that's exactly what I was doing last night – I watched X-Men: Days of Future Past.
I'm a big fan of X-Men in general but particularly of what they've been doing with the new movies, especially in terms of casting. One of their newest additions, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, makes his first, if quick, appearance in this latest instalments. And he does so wearing one of my favourite ever pieces – a Horiyoshi III bomber jacket, which we've seen before on Haider Ackermann and, hell, even on myself! Oddly enough, the scene takes place in 1976 but I'd be a d*ck to complain about anachronisms when I enjoyed this geeky detail so much I decided to post about it...

Lavish Classics from the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2014 Collection

Kim Jones, in his role as creative director for Louis Vuitton's menswear, is one of the few designers who constantly delivers relevant, desirable and extremely wearable luxury pieces season after season. If I ever had to choose a single brand to wear for the rest of my life, LV would definitely be at least in my top 3.
For the 2014 Pre-Fall Collection Jones has concentrated on rich colours – most notably deep blues and maroons – and luxury fabrics. These two are applied on wardrobe staples such as the anorak, the bomber jacket or the hunting jacket. Outwear especially stands out with a variety of styles that could easily have you sorted for at least 3 our of the 4 seasons.
I also favour the slim silhouettes, which give the looks an effortless masculine feel and get away from some of the extreme skinny or baggy fits some designers insist on proposing.

Frank Loves: Louis W. for A.P.C. SS14 Collection

It is a little crazy that Louis W.'s latest collection for A.P.C. is only he's fourth for the French icon. And I say crazy because it's so quickly gained its own cult following that one might think it's been quite a few more years than that.
This month sees the launch of this fourth collection for SS14. An exercise on the reinvention of the Teddy jacket, which was inspired by the looks of American mobsters – its most obvious illustration is the pinstripe wool jacket. The rest of the line sticks to dark colours – black, navy, brown – with the exception with the so-called 'desert-boot' beige suede (my favourite). Suede, wool and leather are all present either individually or used as a play on texture.

I'm not Frank vs. Harry Styles: The Suede Bomber Jacket

I have always been a big fan of Harry Styles – Harry's Style? – so this isn't so much a face-off as it is a celebration of our shared good taste. You might remember I first blogged about my suede bomber jacket from Marc by Marc Jacobs back in January when I bought it from Mr Porter. It was, by a mile, the best buy of the season but because I got it sort of late in the winter I didn't get to wear it much. That is something I am making up for this time around. Not only it's a cool classic piece but it's also a bit of a statement and extremely warm – I'm not the kind to sacrifice body-temperature for fashion.
Harry was first spotted in his a week or two ago and he's since made it a wardrobe staple of his worn with his also signature skinny black jeans and Chelsea boots, which is oddly how I often wear mine. He also wore it last week for his latest appearance with One Direction in Good Morning America. His personal choice was this Saint Laurent version, which has a slightly aged-effect suede, darker knit cuffs and hem trim and tougher shearling detailing. It also doesn't feature the knit side panels from mine or the shearling lining inside. It suits him better because he's more rock and roll.

UPDATE: I wrote this post before the British Fashion Awards took place so now that Harry has won the British Style Award, I deserve a bit of recognition for my similar good taste, no?

FW13 Wishlist: Club Monaco Boiled Wool Bomber Jacket

As I mentioned previously, during my last visit to New York a couple of weeks ago I had the chance to do a bit of (window) shopping at some stores we don't have in the UK. One of these stops was at Club Monaco. I didn't used to think much of their clothes but after visiting their stores I couldn't have been more wrong. They have a great selection of classic and contemporary classics. Some of their key seasonal pieces have a real luxe feel to them, which makes them a bit higher priced than your average Zara item but also seems to be worth it.
One of such items was this Boiled Wool Bomber Jacket in burgundy and navy, which I tried at the store. It was incredibly lightweight, made with a very slim material, but really warm. The quilted detailing inside give it a sort of sportswear feel when it's on and it's one of those versatile pieces that can look very sporty worn with a t-shirt and jeans but also elevated when paired with a button-shirt, chinos and smart shoes.
I, of course, was dumb enough not to buy it thinking there might be a way of buying it later from the UK – which, guess what, there isn't.  And so, this makes my first FW13 Wishlist item this season.

This week Haider Ackermann finally made me a happy man again presenting his return to menswear during Paris Fashion Week. The super stylish designer took his vow a the end of the show wearing a fashion-forward look with my favourite Horiyoshi III bomber jacket in off-white.

I also recently attended the launch party of the collaboration between the brand and Timothy Everest featuring sharp tailoring and presenting a short film with Tilda Swinton.
