Thinking FW12: Yes, Deer Tie

My obsession with ties didn't start until about 2 years ago. Before then, I would never wear one because, frankly, I didn't believe in them. Silly me. Since then, my collection has grown enormously especially if you consider that I only wear them little over twice a year for fashion week and for special events.
On my wishlist for FW12, as well as Jil Sander's whale one, is this 'Yes, Deer Tie' from Of a Kind created in collaboration with The Knottery. Green is my go-to colour in the winter and I have this thing for deer and moose motifs so it kind of ticks all the boxes.
I sounded so keen on this tie, even to myself, that I stopped mid-post and bought it online. Ha! It is only $45 and there is only 50 of them so I guess this is what they call affordable luxury. Now I am terribly excited about how cool it will look with my flannel Gant Rugger suit – a perfect look for icy Milan Fashion Week in January.

And so my pursuit for the perfect FW12 wardrobe continues. I have been quite obsessed with MSGM ever since I discovered it back in February when Viviana Volpicella turned up in a total MSGM look during fashion week. The Italian brand has, since then, become quite the cult thing.
Their FW12 collection, which you can see in full here, is full of great floral, animal and graphic prints that, contrary to what you may think, look so masculine and cool. The brand has the quality and the cuts of brands like A.P.C. and the edgy style of what we're currently seeing from Kenzo. Though, in terms of clothing, I like MSGM much better than the latter.
I am really going to try to get my hands on some of the FW12 pieces, which would actually work through seasons. I never thought I'd like to wear leopard print until I found this jumper, which I love paired with the matching shirt as a sort of set only broken up by the grey. Same goes for the flower sweatshirt. It can be worn in so many interesting ways. My third pick is the fluffy grey coat. It's very much on-trend this season and, while more daring, I'm sure it's ultra warm and so soft ladies can't take their hands off you. It's a win-win.

Thinking FW12: Ermenegildo Zegna's masterpiece of a trench

This week I've realised I am completely over the summer, or whatever annoying hybrid we might have had in London. Fall/Winter shopping is always not only easier but also a lot more pleasant. Winter clothes also give more room for style as men can vary between more than 3 or 4 types of garment.
So these days I've been looking around online for my key pieces for the winter, regardless of whether I can actually afford it. So far, one of the very few pieces that has stood out the most is this incredible Ermegildo Zegna trench coat. It actually feels weird referring to it as a trench coat because it's a lot more – it's a masterpiece. Living in London a trench coat is something ordinary, which is probably why I have never bought one and worn it often. Zegna's option, on the contrary, is anything but ordinary. The leather inserts and trimming, the micro-checked lining and the removable shearling collar give it a super distinctive touch. The reason why it's so great is because it's also a classic. It could be your dad's old coat (if he's very stylish) but you can rock it even better.
I doubt that at €2,720 a pop I will be able to afford one this winter but believe this, if I had a house to get a second mortgage on I would happily get into debt for years only to own this coat. If you're luckier than me you can buy it here.
