Most Stylish of the Week: Classic Tailoring with a Twist

MSOTW5Aug

It looks like quite a few celebrities felt very sartorially inspired last week so I was spoilt for choice when putting together this Most Stylish of the Week post.
Dave Franco, who is shorter but much more stylish than his older brother James, looked effortlessly cool in a classic grey two-button suit, which he wore with a plaid button down shirt and tan leather lace-up shoes.
It's nice to see Justin Theroux out of his signature jeans-and-white-tee look. He, too, introduced a cool twist to his otherwise conservative dark grey suit by means of red suspenders and matching shoe laces, which have the outfit a vintage vibe.
Darren Criss' latest look is one of my favourite ones we've seen from him. We have all seen it before – off-white chinos, navy blazer and yellow shirt. And yet it feels fresh and young. Perhaps thanks to the great cut of the Gant Rugger madras shirt? Probably.
Sam Claflin, who often rocks unexpected ensembles on the red carpet, looks great in his latest magazine editorial. His edgy dyed hair gives the double-chested suit and polo-neck jumper such a fresh energy.
I have really missed Eddie Redmayne these past few months. Even though he is not making as big an effort as he had during his Les Mis press tour he stilled looked awesome in his chambray suit, which he wore with all-blue accessories.
Logan Lerman been appearing on these posts quite consistently because he simply can do no wrong. He wears his suits with the ease of someone who's been doing it for decades and I love how the slightly undone tie has become sort of his signature touch.
Even though it's not really noticeable in the picture, Kit Harington's micro-print suit was a hit on its own. It looks good with the dark blue shirt and black tie but it would have really been a statement with an oxford blue shirt or anything more season appropriate. I am, however, still loving the double monk-strap shoes we already saw him rock a few weeks back.
In a perfectly cut plaid Dior Homme James Marsden brought back a bit of the 60's flavour he clearly picked up from his experience acting on 'Hairspray'. Everything else was kept simple to stop the look from being loud.

Most Stylish of the Week: How to do Tailoring in the Summer

MSOTW30June

Despite Paris Fashion Week being in full blast, it was a slow week for menswear. Thankfully, Johnny Depp and Lapo Elkann decided to make appearances, which kept the week interesting.
I am such a big fan of Gabriel Mann's off-screen style. He does preppy like a master. This week he went for a casual look pairing a light chambray blazer with a subtle turquoise button-down shirt, white shorts (perfect length), and striped slip-ons. This is what you should be wearing to summer parties.
Patrick Schwartzenegger always looks good off-duty but it's nice to see he's also got the red carpet under control. Even though it's not the most original of looks, his grey suit and tie-less done-up shirt look modern and age-appropriate.
With his second hit in a row, Johnny Depp rocked a Ralph Lauren pinstripe double-breasted suit in brown (!), which he wore with an open collar white shirt and his usual paraphernalia as accessories. I am not too keen on the length of the trousers but Depp doesn't play by the rules so it works.
Lapo Elkann made two appearances this week – both for Gucci. The entrepreneur and style icon first wore an olive green double-breasted number with orange notes and incredible shoes to the Gucci show. He was then spotted in a slick beige look with an open collar white shirt which gave it vintage vibes.
King of rock-and-roll style Justin Theroux looked his usual fly self in an all black outfit with a buttoned up black polo shirt, black skinny jeans and his signature battered boots and classic aviators.
Also with his second hit in a row, Armie Hammer makes the cut in a chambray Gant suit. The look was modern and cool and was finished off with Ray Ban WayFarers, a spread collar shirt, Tom Ford knit tie and printed pocket square.

Most Stylish of the Week: Hit after Hit!

MSOTW19AprA

What an amazing week! Thanks to the Cannes Film Festival and The CW Upfront we have seen some of the best fashion moments of the month.
Chris Pine, who has no need of either event, looked his usual awesome self in a Ralph Lauren Purple Label navy double breasted suit, which he very aptly accessorised with a patterned pocket square and tie. The latter's peach hue tied the outfit together paired up with the tan leather shoes.
My current style crush Austin Butler blew everyone's socks off (his own included) at the CW Upfront event. He wore a cropped pair of flecked trousers with a skinny-lapelled tux blazer over a casual henley and battered brown leather shoes. He topped it off with a pair of brilliant round specs and his usual god-like hair.
I didn't expect Justin Timberlake to make an appearance at Cannes but was happy to see him rocking a super chic ensemble in a khaki and beige colour palette. The key item was his great Belstaff oversixed cropped trench coat and his new Michael Pitt-inspired haircut.
Jamie Redknapp looked as if he had been born in his Thom Sweeney tuxedo. The ex-footballer showed everyone all the good things a bespoke suit can do for a man.
Another sportsman, Thom Evans, attended this week's Gatsby screening in London in a very dapper ensemble. His Bespoke HQ Prince of Wales double-chested suit was excellently accessorised with a stripped bow tie and blue suede slippers also by Bespoke HQ.

Wilson Bethel's olive green Gant Rugger suit was a breath of fresh air on the CW Upfront red carpet. I do admire a guy who understands the power of colour when it comes to tailoring. His tie was a bit too skinny for my taste but the tan leather belt and shoes were bang-on.
Always a rockstar dresser, Justin Theroux looked exceptional this week in a pair of skinny biker denim (by Bailmain?), which he wisely paired with a simple white tee, his signature black boots and a killer khaki varsity jacket.
Joel Edgerton debuts on the MSOTW with a double hit. The actor first landed in Cannes looking suave in an off-white Salvatore Ferragamo suit with peak lapels – degradé Way Farers and printed pocket square right on the note – and proceeded to look just as great the same evening in a 3-piece tux with velvet details also by Ferragamo.

Most Stylish of the Week: Ryan Gosling is back, in Gucci velvet

MSOTW31Mar

As far as I'm concerned, any week in style is a great one as long as Ryan Gosling is out and about. The actor started promoting 'The Place Beyond the Pines' this week and he did so as he usually does – in style. Ryan wore a deep greyish green velvet two-button suit y Gucci (no one does velvet like them). He kept the rest of the outfit classic with black shoes and tie and a white shirt that allowed the suit to shine (in more than one way).
Joshua Jackson managed to dodge Diane Kruger for a couple of seconds and prove he is just a stylish – if only we didn't get distracted with his blonde girlfriend when they're together... He wore a beautiful 3-piece electric blue suit, which felt young and fresh thanks to the tie-less situation and the brown accents of the belt and the shoes.
Mark Ronson started the daring sartorial choices way before Ryan Gosling did, which is why I have always been a fan of his style. This week he rocked a double-chested green jacket, which he wore with a slim black shirt and trousers. He finished it off with – my favourite – Raf Simons' gold-chain black lace-up shoes.
The other Ryan – Ryan Reynolds, that is – is quickly becoming an icon of effortlessly chic preppy style. This week he wore the classic chinos and navy coat we've seen him in before with a perfect double layer of henley and cardigan. He looks so cool he makes Burger King look like Balthazar's takeout.
Justin Theroux has almost made it onto this weekly post many times, which is why I made room for him this time. While his tough rockstar look is nothing I would normally wear the guy really understands the importance of good fit and, more importantly, of texture. It's quite simply badass.
Another actor who has really been excelling lately is Daniel Craig who, once again, took casual chic to a whole new level of coolness. Another great example of how important a good fit it.
