Most Stylish of the Week: Classic Tailoring with a Twist

MSOTW5Aug

It looks like quite a few celebrities felt very sartorially inspired last week so I was spoilt for choice when putting together this Most Stylish of the Week post.
Dave Franco, who is shorter but much more stylish than his older brother James, looked effortlessly cool in a classic grey two-button suit, which he wore with a plaid button down shirt and tan leather lace-up shoes.
It's nice to see Justin Theroux out of his signature jeans-and-white-tee look. He, too, introduced a cool twist to his otherwise conservative dark grey suit by means of red suspenders and matching shoe laces, which have the outfit a vintage vibe.
Darren Criss' latest look is one of my favourite ones we've seen from him. We have all seen it before – off-white chinos, navy blazer and yellow shirt. And yet it feels fresh and young. Perhaps thanks to the great cut of the Gant Rugger madras shirt? Probably.
Sam Claflin, who often rocks unexpected ensembles on the red carpet, looks great in his latest magazine editorial. His edgy dyed hair gives the double-chested suit and polo-neck jumper such a fresh energy.
I have really missed Eddie Redmayne these past few months. Even though he is not making as big an effort as he had during his Les Mis press tour he stilled looked awesome in his chambray suit, which he wore with all-blue accessories.
Logan Lerman been appearing on these posts quite consistently because he simply can do no wrong. He wears his suits with the ease of someone who's been doing it for decades and I love how the slightly undone tie has become sort of his signature touch.
Even though it's not really noticeable in the picture, Kit Harington's micro-print suit was a hit on its own. It looks good with the dark blue shirt and black tie but it would have really been a statement with an oxford blue shirt or anything more season appropriate. I am, however, still loving the double monk-strap shoes we already saw him rock a few weeks back.
In a perfectly cut plaid Dior Homme James Marsden brought back a bit of the 60's flavour he clearly picked up from his experience acting on 'Hairspray'. Everything else was kept simple to stop the look from being loud.

The Quest to find Mike Ross' Ties Comes to an End

Back in November I embarked on a quest to find the beautifully modern single-diagonal-stripe ties that the character Mike Ross wears on the TV show 'Suits'. It has been a long long quest – though, to be fair, I have a day job so I can't say I lost hours of sleep for this – but it has now come to an end.
After spotting Dave Franco earlier this week in a colour-block skinny tie didn't recognise or could find I decided I would try once again to find the (goddamn) ties. Luckily, the good gods of fashion smiled down on me and reminded me of The Tie Bar, the only online store I had never checked for the ties. And that was, of course, where I found them. And in abundance.
The Tie Bar is one of American GQ's go-to shops for neck attire and accessories so it's no wonder the stylists over at at the show went to them as well. I recommend you check out the store in general – they also do my favourite tie bars (duh!) in the world.
And my luck didn't end there, I even found an exact match for another of Mike Ross' ties worn in one of the last episodes we've seen in the current season. It's a Rag & Bone skinny black model with two ultra thin white and grey stripes across and it's available at Nordstrom.

Dave Franco wears a SS13 Must: The Dolce & Gabbana SS13 Shirt

DaveFrancoD&G

Dave Franco covers the new issue of Wonderland – out tomorrow – as part of his promo tour for the film 'Warm Bodies'. The actor looks super fly wearing some of the new SS13 trends. My favourite is his shot in one of my favourite striped shirts from the Dolce & Gabbana SS13 collection.
Some of the new shirt models are already available online in preparation for the spring. My favourite so far are the burgundy number with the spotty micro print and the silk model with the geometric print. Such a cool way to keep your outfits interesting and staying fresh!

Most Stylish of the Week: 50 shades of grey (almost)

It has been a great week for style thanks to the MTV VMA's, Fashion's Night Out, the Venice Biennale and New York Fashion Week. And if you add the world premiere of 'Anna Karenina' featuring Jude Law and Aaron Johnson, you get a killer combination.
Mostly every most stylish guy has gone for grey this season, which is always a great choice for the beginning of autumn and, while classic, it's much less boring than black.
Ryan Lochte, who is rumoured to be launching his own clothing line, proved he can suit up just as well in the dry. His dark grey suit and the soft touch of the knit polka dot tie and the nice glimmer of the brown shoes were perfect for his NYFW debut. I hope he keeps it up.
After consecutive bad choices in the style and grooming (and personal hygiene) department, Shia LaBeouf finally trimmed his beard and slipped on a pair of slim cuffed suit trousers. It seems that's all he needed to look fly in Venice.
Dave Franco is a lot less talked-about than his brother James but has a much cooler style. This week he gave a lesson in how to wear tailoring in a light grey suit cut to perfection paired with a classic white shirt and a midnight blue bowtie of perfect proportions.
Jude Law knows he doesn't have to try very hard to be the best dressed. For his London premiere of 'Anna Karenina' he combined 3 different shades of grey that made up a 3-piece suit for pros. Like Lochte, he knows that the best touch to a grey look is always a nice tan leather shoe.

I mostly unashamedly admit how big a fan I am of One Direction. There is something about their music that always puts me in a good mood. And it's always great to see them live because they're pretty much the best dressed boy band in history. On Friday night they picked up three awards at the MTV VMA's and gave another lesson in style, which is to say a lot when you consider they have barely made it to their 20's. My personal favourite is Louis Tomlinson, who wins this week's best grooming for his sleek, badass and effortless hairdo and subtle stubble.
