Frank's Weekend Picks

IMG_0072 copy

All Saints Cargo Biker Leather Jacket: With this mild October weather we're having in the UK a leather jacket is a man's best friend. It's a great addition to any look, especially if you need a bit of an edge for a preppy outfit.

British GQ, November 2013: The latest issue of the magazine is the best companion for a weekend coffee. Also essential to get cracking with all your purchases for the FW13 season.

The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling: I usually read a lot over the summer but I haven't had the time to do so this year so I am catching up now. To start, J.K. Rowling's light but brilliantly written latest novel. Don't let the roars of the name put you off.

The 20/20 Experience Part 2/2: It only came out last Monday but I have probably listened to it a hundred times. It's got some brilliant upbeat tunes perfect for the weekend or to start the week in high spirits.

Paris vs. New York by Vahram Muratyan: Always a favourite of mine. I love flicking through it to enjoy the witty illustrations and the excellent art direction.

Balenciaga Overnight Bag: Still my favourite bag since I bought it two years ago. It goes with me to work, on my weekend trips and holidays and, well, just about anywhere else.

Must Read: System, Issue 1

System-cover

I'm happy and proud to share this with you. The first issue of System magazine hits newstands around the world this week and I can't recommend it enough! Not only because I have been involved in its creation but mainly because it's an amazing read, has stunning visual stories and a unique art direction. The issue includes the first interview with Nicolas Ghesquière since he left Balenciaga – of which you can read an excerpt on BoF – plus conversations with Alaïa, Valentino, Marc Ascoli and former CEO of Louis Vuitton Yves Carcelle.
Make sure to follow System on Facebook and Twitter for news, images from the launch last week in Paris and more.

Leo covers the new Interview Russia

With all the Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar editions all over the world I had never thought whether anyone would take on franchising the Andy Warhol's iconic Interview magazine. It's been one of my favourites since I first discovered –definitely my favourite read– but I've always felt like it was quintessentially American and, hence, could not exist anywhere else.
It looks like the people over in Russia would like to prove me wrong and so they've launched their country's version of the magazine. I am glad that the news went along with the release of the cover because if they hadn't put Leo looking suave on it I wouldn't have felt this happy about the new edition of the mag.
I love the vintage feel of both Brigitte Lacombe's picture of Leo and of the magazine's old logo. I guess you can only drop the "Andy Warhol's" when you've gained enough recognition. But just the fact that such a strong cover covers the first issue says a lot about the country to me. I can't wait to grab a copy and see if the inside lives up to the outside.

One of those issues...

If you follow me here at Fashion, Frankly and at soVIPzone you will know how big a fan of Tom Ford and Interview magazine I am. Put one and one together and imagine how excited I was last night when I first saw the latest Interview cover. It feels great to have an entire issue devoted to menswear. Apart from the Tom Ford piece I am dying to read the Haider Ackermann interview by Tilda Swinton and the Baptiste Giabiconi (I wonder what he's got to say) by Karl Lagerfeld himself!

Aaron by Alasdair - Man about Town

I don't like posting things with too little text but sometimes certain things need no explanation. I'll just say Aaron Johnson had such an exceptional style, which has been wonderfully captured in this video for Man about Town magazine. No wonder he got the "Nowhere Boy" gig. Take a look.

Peroxide Swagger

A couple of weeks ago I came across a video of Mark Ronson dying his hair platinum blond for the latest cover of Blackbook magazine. It was an interesting transformation to witness because I had been thinking of doing the same on myself for a while. But I'll leave that for next summer. The thing is Mark looked even more dapper (if possible) with an extreme 50's haircut to go with the new colour.

More recently, we can see Mark in his latest musical collaboration with The Business Intl on 'The Bike Song' where his hair is a bit shorter and more peroxide blond. It looks cooler and more masculine and it really makes a statement with 50's/60's casual outfits. You can watch the video here.

pense GQ

It is rare for me to find menswear editorials where not only I like the clothes but I would also wear them. This one from GQ France's August 2010 issue is one of those rare gems. It's cool and fashionable menswear for a guy into fashion that needs to be taken seriously. I am loving the tucked in polo shirts and tees this season but only with shorts.

I am so happy that after GQ US recommended (this) my A.P.C. shorts for this summer, GQ France recommends the Uniqlo +J suit from which I got the blazer. Give me a job?
