Three Z Zegna coats you can't live without this winter

ZZegnaFW14Coats2

It has taken me a (long) while to get back to blogging after my insane buying season. September and October were just non-stop work and I could not get myself to even say so on a post. The cold weather has finally got me excited about clothes so I thought it would be apt to resume things with a post about coats.
I have had these Z Zegna coats saved on my computer since the show in January, which is also how long I have been trying to figure out how to amass enough cash to buy them all. Over the last winter seasons I have become quite tired of wearing dark colours – how many black, navy and charcoal coats can one have? Winter is actually a brilliant season to have some fun with colours, layers and textures. Paul Sturridge proposed classic overcoat shapes updated by means of slightly curvaceous yet sharp lines and an excellent use of colour. The striped styles make it easy to add a subtle distinct  touch to a winter look while the maroon and yellow (as shown in the show) make more of a statement. Personally, I would go for the deep green and navy style (above) as it works just as well with jeans as it does worn over a suit.

25 Things I'd like for my 25th Birthday

25thBday

I promise this is (one of) the last post where I mention anything about the upcoming celebration of my 25th birthday on March 21st. As I mentioned recently, every year I put together a list of presents – more for personal fantasy purposes than for realistic use – and this time I've made it extra special. You must obviously add to the list the pair of sneakers I posted about recently. You can, in fact, still vote for the pair you think I should buy next month.

What do you think of the selection? Any favourites?

Z Zegna SS13: Italian Modernism

The Z Zegna show always one of the most exciting show to attend in Milan because the brand and their creative director Paul Surridge totally march to the beat of their own drum and stand out from the crowd season after season.
One of Surridge's main inspirations for SS13 was the work of Dan Flavin, famous for his installations of fluorescent lights. In comes a colour palette of fluoro greens, corals and yellows paired with Solaro tailored pieces with micro prints or iridescent finishes that are perfectly light for the summer and add an interesting play on light and texture.
Another strong point of the collection were the elbow-long short sleeves of blazers, jackets and shirts with a 60's flavour.
My favourite part of the collection was the sportswear feel of the line, which has been one of the fixtures on womenswear too during the last two seasons, one that doesn't seem to be going away soon.
It was a intriguing and beautifully finished collection that will work wonders in editorials and look incredibly cool on the streets.

FW11: Micro-trends to have a laugh

I have been quite bad at keeping up with FW10 shows on Fashion, Frankly. But I have every intention of making up for my big absence during the men's fashion weeks. First up is my compilation of the funniest micro-trends from the season. I will be back with more posts about my favourite looks, the collections I loved the most and, of course, a list of the trends that will dictate fashion rules next winter.

Ad me up

I've never really got why people complain so much about ads on magazines. Personally, I love them because they get me in the mood of the issue of the magazine I'm reading. And I love menswear adverts even more because they usually heavily detailed as they are selling a very concise lifestyle to a very specific kind of man. I always love Dolce & Gabbana's because they're mostly shot by Steven Klein but I am so keen on the FW10 campaign because it carries on with the 1940's Naples theme of their collection and because it lacks that sexually ambiguous note that I don't dislike but that's refreshing. Ralph Lauren and Filippa K are always classic and yet you always find yourself wanting to be one of the guys in the advert. And Z Zegna has delivered a very different looking campaign that links to the innovation going on in their collections.
