Most Stylish of the Week: Bromance in Cannes

MSOTW26May

This year's Cannes Film Festival is the gift that keeps on giving. I feel like it gets longer every year but if that means we get to enjoy menswear moments like these they can make it a month long, as far as I'm concerned.
Exactly a week ago Garrett Hedlund and Justin Timberlake hit the red carpet for the 'Inside Llewyn Davis' premiere. The pair seemed to be enjoying each others company. Or perhaps they were just laughing at the rest of us because we'll never be able to look that good... Garrett wore a beautiful combination of midnight blue and black (by Prada?), which I will never tire of saying is the most elegant eveningwear recipe. Timberlake looked his usual sharp self in a classic black suit and skinny bow tie, which he topped off with my favourite Lanvin flower pin. Earlier that day Justin posed at the arrivals photocall in a chic double-chested knit blazer worn with a gingham shirt and beige chinos.
Zachary Quinto made the most perfect choice when he went for his head-to-toe Alexander McQueen look this week. He wore a beautiful satin jacquard rever double breasted tuxedo accessorised with a skull-patterned silk bow tie and black leather monk strap shoes.
Grooming mistake aside, Bradley Cooper's orange suit moment was up there with the sartorial epic-ness of Ryan Gosling or Robert Pattinson. The custom-made suit signed by Gucci – who else? – looked stunning paired with a pale blue shirt and tan leather Oxford shoes. If only you had done your hair, Bradley...

Funnily enough, Bill Skarsgård just happened to make an appearance at Cannes the week I started watching 'Hemlock Grove'. The actor looked incredibly cool first in a dark evening outfit that fit him like a glove and later in a more casual take wearing the same blazer over layered t-shirts channeling a bit of Roman Godfrey.
James Franco can get away with things us mortals wouldn't dare of trying – namely these mirrored gangsta shades and the just-out-of-bed hairstyle. The actor looked super cool pairing these with a blue Gucci look perfect for spring. I really wish he would undo that second button on his blazer, though...
After realising that perhaps just being George Clooney wasn't enough to look stylish all the time the actor has been making some really great choices as of late. His usual perfect-fitting grey suit look becomes iconic here with his grey moustache and 60's tortoiseshell sunglasses.

He's Fly: Bill Skarsgård (aka: Six Reasons to Watch 'Hemlock Grove')

After weeks debating whether I should I started watching 'Hemlock Grove' this week and I am already halfway through the first season. (Which means I started it yesterday and have wasted all of my free time on this). I must admit the show is a lot better than I expected, especially if you consider the supernatural element which seems to be a given on every TV show these days.
One of the best things about the show – apart from the great production value – is Bill Skarsgård, who plays Roman Godfrey on the show. The youngest of the Viking Swedish dynasty is not only very talented but also über-stylish in and out of the small screen. And so I am giving you 6 (stylish) reasons to watch the show.

1. He wears knit blazers.
A favourite of mine, they have always been claimed as grandfather wardrobe territory. An old man at heart, I feel super comfortable in them and there's a relaxed but chic vibe to them. On Bill they also happen to look ridiculously cool.
2. He has exceptional hair.
I can never emphasise enough what good hair can do for you. If, like Bill, you find the effortless cut that really suits you there is no better accessory in the world.

3. He drives a convertible Jaguar XK 150 from the late 50's - early 60's (yes, I had to Google that)
Good cars seem to come with the good-looking-but-slightly-fucked-up-supernatural-rebel-going-to-high-school look but I am particularly keen on this red Jaguar model from my favourite era. Roman looks great driving to school in it and doesn't seem to care about the constricted space inside when performing extracurricular activities.

4. He wears short-sleeved cardigans.
Only Andrew Garfield and 50+ Italian-American New Yorkers with a belly had been able to pull this look off since the 60's. Bill wears it like an all time classic – I would too if I was a handsome Viking Swede 1.92m tall – and layers it under a blazer for a cool school look.

5. He has a bit of all the best characters in TV and Film.
He's got the flair for fashion of Sebastian Flyte, the charming devilish attitude of Sebastian Valmont and the fucked-up negated child but deep-down-caring quality of Zeke Tyler.

6. He wears tuxedos to Homecoming and blazers to school.
There are no baby blue ruffled shirts and oversized lapels in sight for high school dances or baggy jeans and filthy hoodies sitting at his desk at school.

Most Stylish of the Week: Suited up at CinemaCon

MSOTW22Apr1

It has also been hard this week to cut the best looks down to six. I also have no idea why I've decided to only have six guys on the Most Stylish of the Week post...
Zachary Quinto, who usually overdoes colour or accessories when he dresses for the red carpet looked sharp and cool and ready for spring at CinemaCon. His rolled-up red suit trousers were paired up with suede black lace-ups and a muted checked shirt to balance out the standout colour. My favourite touch was the black and white belt, which made the look a bit dressier and kept it interesting.
It's no secret how big a man-crush I have on Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He always looks great. In this occasion he wore a grey checked Prada suit with a micro-print burgundy tie, which is a nice break from his usual blue suit. I would only complain about the jacket sleeves, the shirt must always pop out.
Chris Pine has been wearing impressively nice outfits as of late. His latest hit was the dark checked suit he wore to CinemaCon. He paired the double-breasted Louis Vuitton number with a striped shirt and shiny blue tie. This is a great example of how an excellent fit is always the best accessory.
Looking at pictures of Zac Efron every week makes me remember every week how much I need to start going to the gym... The actor just doesn't get it wrong. This week he went for a casual micro-printed degradé blue shirt paired with slim jeans and brown suede lace-ups, which he topped off with his signature Persol sunglasses.
At first glance, Logan Lerman's look doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary but his cast and undone tie are to blame for this lack of attention. His blue suit, worm with a white shirt and printed tie is a winning combination. The best part of the look are actually the leather and suede blue shoes, which add texture and tie it all together.
Bill Skarsgard, the youngest of the talented-and-good-looking Viking family, opted for an unexpected olive green double-breasted suit worn with a grey shirt and dark grey tie. I love the combination of colours and the fit, which is perfect. I only wish those shirt buttons disappeared.
